FIRST
PETER GRANT MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP AWARDED!
(Now Known as the Peter D. Grant "Wild Ride" Adventure
Scholarship)
|
The first scholarship in the amount of $500.00,
was given to ORHS graduating Senior, Matthew
MacDowell Smith on June 11, 2004. Anita Mathur, Judy (Williams)
Kucera, and Steve Wourigiotis (ORHS '91) awarded the scholarship
at the graduation ceremony. Sebastien Roy and Amy (Priestley) Roy
were also in attendance. Special thanks to Tim Myer's mom, Carole
York, for videotaping the presentation!

Matt is an ORHS honor student and will be
attending UNH next year to pursue Environmental Studies. His sport
interests include hiking, skiing, snowboarding, biking, spear fishing,
surfing, and running competitively. He has experience hiking in
the rainforests and mountainous regions of South India and on the
Big Island of Hawaii.
Matt has receieved numerous awards for track and field and cross
country including: Twelve Season Athlete, Most Committeed Athlete,
Leadership Award, Team Sportsmanship award, and High School Men's
Athletic and Academic Award. In addition he helped set the school
record in the 4X200 meter relay during his senior year.
Outside of sports Matt is a math tutor, does landscaping work, and
writes articles for the school newspaper (article
part 1, article
part 2). He also volunteers at fundraisers for the Dana Farber
Cancer Institute and YMCA Art Auction. During the summer of 2002
Matt participated in Project SMART in Environmental Science and
Marine Biology at the University of New Hampshire. He also enjoys
panning for gold in consultation with the UNH Geology department.
We are thrilled that Matthew Smith is the first recipient of the
Peter D. Grant "Wild Ride" Adventure Scholarship!
